Four-step teaching routine for Paragraph Frames Aren't Cheating. Full instructions are in Teach it.
  1. 1Use a paragraph frame to organise claim, evidence and explanation while leaving the subject reasoning to the learner
  2. 2Arrange evidence so it supports that claim
  3. 3Write sentences that explain the link between evidence and claim
  4. 4Read as a paragraph and remove detail that does not serve the argument
Worked classroom example

A paragraph about flood risk states a claim about building on floodplains, cites a source detail, then explains how the detail supports the claim. A list of weather facts is not the same structure.

A model to discuss and adapt to your class.
