Find the faulty step

Locate and explain an error rather than only replacing the answer.

Make the thinking visible

Worked relationship · read left to right
Given

3(x + 2) = 15.

Faulty step

3x + 2 = 15.

Repair

Distribute to both terms: 3x + 6 = 15, so x = 3.

Original classroom example. Numerical data are illustrative unless explicitly identified otherwise. A completed organiser models reasoning; copying it is not evidence of independent learning.

Reveal the misconception check

Ask what the model does not establish. A plausible explanation needs supporting evidence and a clear limit. For a method, check each step against the original conditions.
